1. Who we are#
This policy explains how sim ("sim", "we", "us") handles information when you use the sim app for iPhone and simsocial.org. sim is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], which is responsible for the personal information described here.
sim is a game. Every account in it other than yours is fictional, and the crowd's posts and messages are generated by software.
2. What we collect#
When you create an account, we collect and store the following with our authentication and database provider, Supabase:
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password (stored only as a secure hash) | You sign up with email | To create your account and let you sign in |
| Apple ID user identifier, and the email Apple shares (which may be a private relay address) if you choose to share it | You use Sign in with Apple | To create your account and let you sign in |
| Username and display name | You set up your profile | To show your identity in the game |
| Account timestamps (such as when the account was created and last signed in) | Automatically | To run and secure the account system |
That's all we collect. We don't ask for your real name, phone number, date of birth, contacts or location.
Supabase acts as our processor and stores this information on our behalf, in [DATA HOSTING REGION].
Placeholder: the Supabase project's hosting region must be filled in before launch.
3. What stays on your iPhone#
The game itself lives on your device. The following are stored only on your iPhone and are not uploaded to sim:
- your posts and replies;
- photos you attach to posts, and your profile photo and header image;
- your simulated crowd: its accounts, their posts, replies and reactions;
- your direct messages with simulated accounts;
- your game progress, including followers, verification, ranks and achievements;
- if you sign in with Apple and choose to share your name, that name, used only to pre-fill your profile;
- your sign-in session and, if you add one, your cloud AI key, both kept in the iPhone Keychain.
Because we don't have this data, we can't recover it for you if it's lost, and we can't see it.
4. What we don't do#
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking across apps or websites.
- No third-party analytics SDKs in the app.
- No selling or sharing of your personal information for money or for advertising.
- No access to your contacts or location.
5. AI and your text#
The crowd's replies, messages and posts are written in one of three ways:
- Apple Intelligence. On supported iPhones, text is generated on your device. It is not sent to sim.
- A cloud model with your own key (optional). If you connect a third-party AI provider using your own API key, the text of your posts and messages is sent directly from your iPhone to that provider so it can write the crowd's responses. sim never sees this text. The provider handles it under its own privacy policy and terms, so read those before you connect it.
- sim's built-in writer. Runs within the app and does not send your text to sim.
6. Device permissions#
- Photos. Used only so you can pick images for posts, your profile photo and your header. Images you pick stay on your device.
- Motion sensors. Used only to make the holographic badge shimmer as you tilt your phone. Motion data is used in the moment and is not stored or sent anywhere.
You can change these permissions at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
7. This website#
simsocial.org is a static website. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and the pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.
9. Keeping and deleting your data#
We keep your account information for as long as you have an account.
- Delete account in the app removes your account and profile (email or Apple identifier, username, display name and timestamps) from Supabase. Some information may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period before it is overwritten.
- Data on your iPhone (posts, photos, crowd, messages and progress) is removed when you delete the app.
If you used Sign in with Apple, you can also stop using it with sim in your Apple Account settings.
10. Your rights#
Depending on where you live, including under the EU and UK GDPR and California's CCPA, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, and object to or restrict how we use it. You can delete your account in the app at any time. For any other request, email privacy@simsocial.org. We'll respond within the time the law requires, and we won't treat you differently for using these rights. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we process account information because it's necessary to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract), and to keep the service secure (our legitimate interests).
11. Children#
sim is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Players aged 13 to 17 need permission from a parent or guardian. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email privacy@simsocial.org and we'll delete it.
12. Security#
Account data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with Supabase, which protects it with industry-standard safeguards. Passwords are stored as hashes, never in plain text. No system is perfectly secure, so use a strong, unique password and keep your device locked.
13. International transfers#
Your account information is stored in [DATA HOSTING REGION]. If that's outside the country where you live, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for the transfer.
14. Changes to this policy#
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top. If a change is material, we'll tell you in the app or on simsocial.org before it takes effect.
15. Contact#
