Terms of Use

Effective November 6, 2026

The short version

  • sim is a game. Every account, reply, message and reaction in it is fictional, and AI-written text can be wrong or offensive.
  • You need to be at least 13. If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
  • Don't use sim to harass real people, break the law, mislead people by impersonating someone real, or attack the service.
  • What you write stays yours. We only use it as needed to run the game.
  • If you connect your own AI provider, that provider's terms apply to what you send it.
  • sim is free and provided as is. You can delete your account in the app at any time.

This summary is here to help. The full text below is what applies.

1. Agreeing to these terms#

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and sim ("sim", "we", "us"), the operator of the sim app for iPhone and the website at simsocial.org (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

Operator: [LEGAL ENTITY NAME]. The legal name and address of the entity that operates sim must be filled in here before launch.

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it. It is part of these Terms.

2. Who can use sim#

You must be at least 13 years old to use sim. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use sim only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

sim is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them, in line with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at legal@simsocial.org and we will delete it.

You may not use sim if you are barred from doing so under the laws that apply to you.

3. Your account#

You sign in with Apple or with an email address and password. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for what happens under your account. Tell us at legal@simsocial.org if you think someone else has accessed it.

Your username and display name are stored with your account. Pick a username that doesn't impersonate a real person or brand and isn't offensive. We may reclaim or change a username that breaks these Terms.

One person, one account. Don't sell, share or transfer your account.

4. Everything in the game is simulated#

sim is a social media simulation. All of the following are fictional and generated by software:

  • every account other than yours, including accounts presented as fans, brands, reporters, celebrities or bots;
  • every like, repost, reply, follow, view, notification, trending topic and direct message;
  • follower counts, verification, ranks, achievements and every other number or status in the game.

Any resemblance between a simulated account and a real person, business or brand is coincidental. Nothing in the game is an endorsement by, or a message from, a real person or organisation. A simulated brand deal is not an offer, and a simulated reporter is not the press.

Replies, messages and posts in the game are written by artificial intelligence (Apple Intelligence on supported devices, an optional third-party model you connect, or sim's built-in writer). AI-generated text can be inaccurate, nonsensical, rude or offensive, and it may not be appropriate for every player. It does not reflect the views of sim. Don't rely on it for advice of any kind (including medical, legal, financial or safety advice).

5. Acceptable use#

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • harass, threaten, bully or target real people, including by naming them in posts meant to demean them;
  • create, store or share content that is illegal, sexually exploits minors, promotes violence or terrorism, or infringes someone else's rights;
  • impersonate a real person or organisation in a way that is meant to, or is likely to, mislead others (for example, passing off screenshots from sim as real posts by a real person);
  • try to break, probe, overload or get around the security of the Service, its servers or its accounts system, or access another player's account;
  • reverse engineer, scrape or copy the Service except as the law expressly allows;
  • use automated means to create accounts or use the Service at scale;
  • break any law that applies to you.

Screenshots of the game are fine to share. If you share them, don't present simulated content as real.

6. Your content#

"Your content" means what you create in sim: your posts, replies, messages, photos, profile photo, header image, username and display name.

You keep ownership of your content. You give sim a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process and display your content only as needed to operate and provide the Service to you, for example to show your username in the app or to have AI generate replies to your posts. This licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies we must keep by law.

Most of your content is stored on your iPhone, not on our servers. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what is stored where.

You're responsible for your content and confirm you have the rights to use anything you add, such as photos.

7. Optional third-party AI providers#

sim lets you connect a cloud AI model by entering your own API key from a third-party provider. If you do:

  • the key belongs to you and is your responsibility, including any charges the provider makes for its use;
  • the text of your posts and messages is sent directly from your iPhone to that provider to generate the crowd's responses, and sim does not receive it;
  • your use of the provider is governed by the provider's own terms and privacy policy, not by sim;
  • we don't control and aren't responsible for the provider's service, availability, output or handling of your data.

Connecting a provider is optional, and you can stop using it at any time.

8. A free service#

sim is free. There are no paywalls, in-game currencies or ads. We may add, change or remove features at any time, and we may suspend or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we'll try to give reasonable notice in the app or on simsocial.org.

The Service, including the app, the game design, the sim name and logo, and the website, belongs to sim and its licensors. These Terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and Apple's Usage Rules.

9. Disclaimers#

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE, THAT YOUR IN-GAME DATA WILL NOT BE LOST, OR THAT AI-GENERATED CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE, APPROPRIATE OR INOFFENSIVE.

Some places don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.

10. Limitation of liability#

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SIM AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO US$50.

These limits apply whatever the legal theory of the claim, and even if we were told the damage was possible. They don't apply where the law doesn't allow them, such as for liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Ending your use and deleting your account#

You can stop using sim at any time. To delete your account, use Delete account in the app. This deletes your account and profile from our servers, as described in the Privacy Policy. Content stored only on your iPhone is removed when you delete the app.

We may suspend or close your account, with or without notice, if you break these Terms, if we're required to by law, or to protect the Service or other people. Sections 4, 6 (for content already licensed), 9, 10, 13 and 14 survive termination.

12. Changes to these terms#

We may update these Terms. When we do, we'll change the effective date at the top. If a change is material, we'll give notice in the app or on simsocial.org before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after the change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you don't accept them, stop using the Service and delete your account.

13. Governing law and disputes#

These Terms are governed by the laws of [STATE/COUNTRY], without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts located in [STATE/COUNTRY], unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.

Placeholder: the governing law and venue must be chosen and filled in before launch.

14. General#

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a right, we haven't waived it. You may not transfer these Terms; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. These Terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and sim about the Service.

If you downloaded sim from the Apple App Store, you also agree that Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app or its content, and that Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms with the right to enforce them against you.

15. Contact#
